MAX Trim Levels

The MAX upgrade isn’t available on all trim levels. The Ford Expedition features six trims: the XL STX, XLT, Limited, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum. The XL, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum can all be expanded to MAX size. Before we go any further, let’s take a look at what the MAX option provides.

Increased Size

The Expedition is large, but the MAX version is the largest available. The MAX extends the wheelbase of the Ford Expedition by an additional 9.1″, and lengthens the frame by an additional 11.9″. This increased size adds 15 cubic feet of carrying space behind the third row to the standard Expedition’s already vast cargo capacity.

An Expedition MAX has a towing capacity of 9,000 lbs if you fit the optional Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package.

Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain

The MAX version uses the same engine that powers the standard Expedition, a twin-turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6 with automatic start-stop technology. This engine produces 380 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. This output can be boosted by adding the Stealth Performace Package, available on the Limited MAX. This upgrade pushes engine performance to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that speedily and efficiently shapes this engine’s power to provide a comfortable and smooth driving experience. The drivetrain is standard as RWD, but you can choose intelligent AWD instead.

Interior Space

The Expedition MAX has seating for eight people if you keep the standard configuration of second and third-row bench seats. The large interior offers 42″ of headroom and 43.9″ of legroom in the front, 40″ of headroom and 41.5″ of legroom in the second row, and 37.3″ of headroom and 36.1″ of legroom in the rear seats.

Cargo Capacity

Remember the extra 15 cubic feet of space we talked about earlier? Well, the standard Expedition offers 19.3 cubic feet of trunk space, which extends to 57.5 cubic feet with the third row folded down and 104.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the second folded down. The second and third rows fold flat to make storage easier.

The MAX ups this ante to 34.3 cubic feet of space in the trunk, 72.5 cubic feet with the third-row seating folded, and 119.6 cubic feet with both rows folded down.

The Expedition MAX is not only big, but it’s also a great driving experience. Book your test drive today at Fury Ford Waconia in Waconia, MN.
